Our Summer Journal: Traveling Through Every “World” With You

The wind brushes over the rooftops of New York and sweeps across the coast of California; sunlight illuminates the Boya Pagoda by the unnamed lake, and also glows behind the code that brings metallic robots to life. The ripples from rowing have yet to settle, as if already extending toward the golf course.

This summer, time took on a new density. It was the weight of knowledge absorbed from books, the spark of ideas clashing during late-night problem-solving sessions with peers, and the moment of lifting a trophy on the sports field. Together, we unfolded this rich chapter, listening to students share their stories of growth, passion, and transcendence.

My University "Preview": Welcome to the Summer School
In summer programs at world-renowned universities, students honed their academic skills and expanded their global perspectives.

  1. Tang – Brown University Pre-College Program / North Carolina Math Camp
Unlike the passive learning common in high school, our days began with in-depth theoretical lectures in the morning, followed by collaborative problem-solving sessions in the afternoon. Guided by counselors, we tackled problem sets with dozens of questions, emphasizing independent inquiry and teamwork. A month of intensive training allowed me to grasp the depth of university-level mathematics, especially in number theory.
The most memorable moments came from genuine academic connections. While discussing the structure of the Rubik’s Cube group, I had such an engaging conversation with the professor. I gifted him a Rubik’s Cube as a token of my gratitude and memory—a tacit understanding born from our shared passion that I deeply cherish. I also met exceptional peers from around the world: my talented Indian roommate and a PhD student counselor from Duke. Solving challenging problems, working out, and playing board games together broadened my view and strengthened my determination to self-study advanced fields.

  2. Gao – Smith College
This summer brought me two significant gains. First, I met many peers with similar interests. In HOSA, I found a group of friends who are also passionate about psychology and neuroscience. Smith’s strong atmosphere of Feminism made me feel that discussing these topics are a art of our everyday lives. Second, my critical thinking has been improved markedly. Whether in classes, research writing, or competitions, I was encouraged to speak up about my opinions. From initially thinking in a more self-centered way, to considering multiple perspectives and expressing myself more confidently—this journey has truly transformed me.

  3. Qu – University of Notre Dame
After two weeks in Notre Dame’s summer program, I felt like I knew this place inside out! As a Catholic university, the center of the campus is a church. It looks stunningly beautiful when the dome reflects the golden sunlight. I took a film production course, and we stayed at Mac Studios worth $30,000—what an absolute dream! The facilities here are impeccably maintained. The centuries-old buildings are still standing proud. Lush greenery and vast lawns on campus were watered every morning, creating a vibrant landscape. After sunset, there were glittering fireflies over the grass, creating a breathtaking view.

  4. Ye – Barnard College
I truly fit in to an energetic and supportive community where we encouraged and inspired each other.
This experience gave me a deeper understanding of liberal arts colleges and a strong appreciation for the atmosphere of a women's college. I no longer feel uncertain or fearful about my future university life—instead, I'm more excited and have a much clearer understanding of what kind of environment I want.

What’s It Like to “Grind” on Projects with “Academic Gods” at Peking University?

Wang
The biggest takeaway was meeting outstanding students from different cities and schools. Exchanging ideas with them was incredibly enriching, and I made like-minded friends!

Zheng
Studying economics in Yuanpei taught me to step beyond pure theory and understand the “human” and “social” stories behind economic phenomena through an interdisciplinary lens.

The Ultimate Challenge of Brains and Friendship
At the Harvard Summit for Young Leaders in China (HSYLC), students experienced the charm of interdisciplinary study and team cohesion.

Jiang
I learned to analyze cases with forensic science, understood the structure and logic of urban transportation systems, and delved into the business of soccer—like club structures and trade details between teams. It was super fascinating!

Ge
At HSYLC, despite the fun and packed schedule, seminar assignments were no joke. It became a unique sight: dorm lights on late into the night, everyone hard at work. I took “The Business of Virality,” where the professor taught us how influencers and brands gain rapid fame through the 3C model, visual appeal, scarcity marketing, and precise audience targeting.

Steel, Code, and Passion
Students from Guanghua Academy took part in the first training camp for Geely Auto’s 2025 Youth "Creating the Future Innovation Plan" SRCC (Super Robot Club) VEX V5 RC Competition. Through hands-on tech innovation, they strengthened their sense of identity with “Intelligent Manufacturing in China” as well as their  responsibility for it.
Team members shared their impression: “During the camp, our team played nearly 30 matches! Throughout the preparation, our teamwork and on-the-spot adaptability were visibly improved!”

Free Spirits Among Mountains and Rivers
Sports were the most exhilarating melody of Guanghua Academy’s summer.

Gu demonstrated the international competitiveness of China’s new generation of golfers at the 77th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Niu attended rowing camps at Cornell University, the University of Virginia, and Boston University, breaking waves and pushing limits in rushing currents.

Cai claimed victory with steady performance at the Yangtze River Delta Youth Golf Elite Tournament.
